A Short History of Wedding Rings
We find the history of wedding rings recorded in many cultures of the world and began many centuries ago. The Hebrew, Egyptian, and Roman cultures record their use where wedding rings symbolized uniting two people in a love that would never end.
Wearing the rings on the left hand’s fourth finger according the history of wedding rings was so that the person loved would be close to the heart of the wearer. The people believed that the left hand’s fourth finger had a direct connection to the heart through a certain vein. The history of wedding rings in the Roman culture was that the ring was a legal way to disclose the married relationship of the couple. The rings used in the Roman culture signified strength because they were made of iron. They were a symbol of commitment of one person to the other and that once worn, they could not separate.
